Sainte Marie de la Tourette

Description

Le Corbusier described his goal as “to discover, to create a different, other architecture, unique and original in its essential nudity”.

La Tourette has a solidity to it which demonstrates monumentality and is seen as a monolithic structure. The reinforced concrete used demonstrates the strength needed for such a large building but in some areas there are intricate details that takes the harshness away from the concrete.
The building itself is made up of lots of different concrete parts which each have their own function such as the chapels, church and corridors.
